Besides, her long career as a comedian, writer, actress, and television host allow people to recognize her every time she appears in public. It is common for them to get surprised after seeing how much change Joan has done to her face since the first time she is interested in plastic surgery.
In 2007 Joan explaines “I believe in plastic surgery. Eventually, you will look in the mirror and you will know. You will hit 40 and say ‘That isn’t quite right’ … My motto is ‘Better a new face coming out of an old car than an old face coming out of a new car’. Spend your money on you.” She recommends plastic surgery to anyone who listens, saying that one should spend money for one’s own body.
This woman seemingly regards plastic surgery as a religion. While saying that having a flawless face is a primary necessity for her as a public figure, it turns out that the surgery becomes an obsession for her.
Whenever she feels the urges to do modifications to her face, she goes to the surgeon to undergo the procedures of surgery. “At one point I start to think the risk outweighs the reward, so I wanted my mom to know how I felt about it and I made myself fairly clear,” She mentioned.
Somewhat different from many people who do not want to confess that their faces are products of plastic surgery, Joan follows different path. Instead of concealing them from the public, she admits openly. Joan proudly reveals her obsessions to plastic surgery on television to the extent that she allows the reporters to follow her activities during the surgery procedures.
“I’ve had a face-lift, obviously, and my eyes done, and liposuction on my thighs – and I’ve had my nose done. Why did I do it? Why does anyone do it? Because I think it makes you feel better about yourself. This whole society is based on appearance and looking good. And God gave us plastic surgeons and the brains to do it, so why not?” According to The Guardian.
Plastic Surgery Lists
To the reporters, she explains that she has already undergone 739 plastic surgeries including liposuction, facelift, rhinoplasty, and eyebrow tuck, which is an amazing number of modifications done to a human face. She jokes “I’ve had so much plastic surgery, when I die, they will donate my body to Tupperware.”
Anderson Cooper once asked to Joan, did Joan has 739 plastic surgery procedures? Then Joan said “No,” in mock outrage, 739! I want to look nice and no one wants to look ugly!”
Lena Dunham also wrote, “Joan is gone but a piece of her lives on: her nose, because it’s made of polyurethane.”
This is not to mention the number of surgeries may not be precisely mentioned as it is possible that there are unrecorded surgeries she committed so far.
Her obsession for plastic surgery can be said to achieve the point of addiction because, as Joan says herself, there is no weekend left without undergoing procedures to modify her face. She explained “Every weekend I just go in and I do something. She added “You get a tenth one free. It’s like coffee so you just keep going.”
Her surgeon once even refuses to do more procedures for her because he feels it is already too much. “He will say ‘You don’t need anything. Go home!” Joan joked. “I wish I had a twin so I could know what I’d look like without plastic surgery”
However, Joan persists. Seeing how devoted she is in undergoing the numerous procedures of plastic surgery to her face, it becomes obvious that the reason behind her devotion is because she is unhappy about her face prior to having plastic surgery.
She tries hard to hide what her face looks like before the procedures from the public. “I was so ugly that they sent my picture to Ripley’s Believe It or Not and he sent it back and said ‘I don’t believe it’,” she answer. Read Also: Daryl Hannah Plastic Surgery | Facial Fillers & Botox Injection
Therefore, now people can only see very few remains of what she looks like before she has the plastic surgery, confirming the assumption that she hates her pre-surgery appearance much.
